Anwar Ibrahim to decide on releasing Tabung Haji royal commission report amid political pressure

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he will consult the Chief Secretary on whether the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji should be tabled to the Cabinet before public release. He added that if Cabinet referral is not required, the report could be released immediately; otherwise, it may wait until Wednesday.

Opposition figure Rafizi Ramli accused Anwar of delaying the report to protect UMNO's interests, claiming the findings would expose mismanagement of the pilgrimage fund. UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh called on Anwar to arrest and charge anyone found to have looted Tabung Haji funds, urging transparency after the RCI completed its investigation.

The government indicated the Cabinet had previously approved publication, but concerns about alarming depositors delayed it while Tabung Haji continues its recovery. New chairman Tan Sri Rashid Hussain and a management team have been appointed to address irregularities identified in the commission’s recommendations.
