Anya Taylor‑Joy cast as new elf Seren in upcoming Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

Actress Anya Taylor‑Joy has been confirmed to join the cast of the upcoming film Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, portraying an original character named Seren. The Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm is described as a trusted, lethal agent of King Thranduil and does not appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s works.

Taylor‑Joy expressed that playing Seren is “a dream come true,” praising director Andy Serkis and the film’s ensemble, which includes Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood, Lee Pace, Kate Winslet, Jamie Dornan as Aragorn, and Leo Woodall. Warner Bros. announced the casting with a motion poster in June 2026, and the movie is slated for exclusive theatrical release on 17 December 2027.
