Anykščiai emerges as a top Lithuanian weekend destination
A survey conducted by Spinter tyrimai reveals that Anykščiai has become one of the most popular weekend getaway destinations in Lithuania, matching the popularity of Klaipėda. According to the results, 7% of respondents chose Anykščiai, placing it alongside Klaipėda in the top six most desired locations.
The current official resorts in Lithuania—Palanga (20%), Druskininkai (17%), Neringa (17%), and Birštonas (14%)—occupy the top four positions. While Anykščiai currently holds resort territory status, it does not yet have official resort status.
Guoda Burokienė, Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation, noted that achieving official resort status provides significant economic benefits, including increased visibility, more jobs, stronger local businesses, and higher municipal revenue. To qualify, a location must meet higher requirements, such as scientifically proven natural healing factors and specialized infrastructure for health and leisure.
