AnyPS5 project achieves high GPU instruction coverage for PS5 games on PC
The AnyPS5 project has reached a significant technical milestone, achieving 95.88% coverage of PlayStation 5 GPU instructions for PC compatibility. Unlike traditional emulators that create a heavy virtual machine, AnyPS5 utilizes a compatibility layer and native relinking mechanism. This process converts console executables directly into formats compatible with Windows and Linux, translating graphic code into the SPIR-V standard used by modern video cards.
In addition to GPU instruction support, the project has implemented approximately 78% to 79% of cataloged system library functions. Because the PS5 uses x86-64 architecture similar to desktop computers, AnyPS5 allows the console's code to run directly on a PC CPU without CPU emulation. While developers caution that high instruction coverage does not guarantee seamless performance for all commercial titles, some smaller games are already reportedly running at stable frame rates on modest hardware.
