Anzor Mekvabishvili to transfer from Universitatea Craiova to Chicago Fire

Universitatea Craiova midfielder Anzor Mekvabishvili is set to transfer to the MLS side Chicago Fire. The Romanian club has reportedly accepted an offer of approximately 2.1 million euros for the 25-year-old Georgian player, who was originally signed from Dinamo Tbilisi for 750,000 euros.

Mekvabishvili has accepted the terms of the move and is expected to depart following the return leg of the Europa League play-off against Ararat-Armenia. The first leg between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw.

Former Romanian international Gică Craioveanu described the departure as a “very, very big loss” for Craiova, praising the midfielder's ability to act as an anchor in front of the defense and his contribution to the team's playmaking.
