Aoshima Shrine to host weekend illumination events in Miyazaki

Aoshima Shrine and surrounding areas in Miyazaki will host a weekend-only illumination event starting September 18 through November 29. Organized by the Miyazaki City Tourism Association, the event aims to enhance nighttime tourism by allowing visitors to experience the shrine and island under colorful lights and mythological-themed music.

Under the theme “A night where the sea, stars, and myths shine,” the event seeks to address previous criticisms regarding a lack of nighttime activities on the island. Following last year’s attendance of approximately 6,700 visitors, organizers have set a target of 10,000 visitors for this year’s iteration. The experience is available for a fee of 1,000 yen.
