Aosta to host 69th Batailles de Reines regional cow competition

The traditional Batailles de Reines, a non-bloody competition between cows to establish herd dominance, is approaching its 69th regional final. The event is scheduled for October 25 at the Croix Noire in Aosta, Italy.

In the recent qualifying rounds held in Châtillon, 251 cows participated. Notable winners included Sirène, owned by the Clos brothers, who secured a spot in the regional finals after previous podium finishes. Other winners included Espoir and Bufera. The competition involves pregnant cows from alpine breeds, such as the Valdostana Pezzata Nera and Castana, which compete in weight categories to determine the queens of their respective herds.
