The AOU di Sassari hospital has issued a statement regarding the detection of Legionella bacteria in its Internal Medicine department. The hospital clarified that the positive microbiological results were identified through routine environmental monitoring as part of the facility’s Water Safety Plan and established Legionella management protocols.

Management emphasized that the detection was not triggered by clinical cases or extraordinary events, but rather by systematic surveillance designed to identify potential risks in high-care areas. Upon receiving the results, the hospital immediately activated corrective procedures, including technical inspections, microbiological controls, and the flushing of water terminals to prevent stagnation.

The hospital administration noted that the findings demonstrate the effectiveness of their monitoring system in providing early identification of issues, rather than indicating a failure in plant control.
