Aoup Pediatric Unit recognized as third-level epilepsy center
The Pediatric Unit of the Aoup has been recognized as a third-level medical center by the Italian League Against Epilepsy (Lice) for the diagnosis and treatment of childhood epilepsy. This is the highest certification awarded by Lice to clinical sites that demonstrate excellence in scientific research, care, and the management of complex epilepsy cases.
To achieve this status, the center was evaluated on its medical and nursing staff, technological equipment, patient volume, and research activities. Under the leadership of pediatrician Alessandro Orsini, the center has increased its caseload, including patients with rare diseases from outside the region. The facility has also upgraded its technology, including daytime and continuous video monitoring equipment.
Additionally, the center is set to begin a phase 2 clinical trial for a new anti-epileptic drug targeting drug-resistant epileptic encephalopathies.
