AP-7 highway and R4 train line disrupted by truck fire in Gelida

A truck fire on the AP-7 highway near Gelida has caused significant traffic and rail disruptions in Catalonia. The incident began when a heavy vehicle suffered a tire blowout, causing metal parts to strike the road and create sparks that ignited the vehicle and nearby vegetation.

As of late afternoon, the AP-7 has partially reopened. All lanes are open heading north toward Barcelona, while a single lane is open heading south toward Tarragona. This partial reopening has resulted in traffic jams of up to 10 kilometers in the northbound direction and 8 kilometers in the southbound direction.

The fire has also impacted the Rodalies R4 train line. Rail service is suspended between the Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Martorell Central stations at the request of firefighters. Adif has activated an alternative road transport plan to assist affected passengers, and Civil Protection has placed the Ferrocat plan on pre-alert status.
