Renfe expands Tren+Bus connections to northeastern Spain
Renfe and Avanza have expanded their Tren+Bus intermodal service, enhancing connectivity between the Campo de Gibraltar and northeastern Spain. This service allows travelers to use a single ticket for combined train and bus journeys, utilizing Málaga as a transfer hub to reach destinations such as Barcelona, Zaragoza, Lleida, and Camp de Tarragona.
Specific new routes include connections from Algeciras and Gibraltar/La Línea to major Catalan and Aragonese cities. For example, the journey from Algeciras to Barcelona takes approximately 10 hours and 50 minutes. The expansion also includes daily connections for Marbella and Estepona to Barcelona via Málaga.
Separately, Renfe reported that its Avant medium-distance high-speed service transported 13.2 million passengers in 2025. The highest demand was recorded on routes such as Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid and Madrid-Toledo, highlighting the growing use of high-speed rail for daily commuting and personal travel.
