AP-7 motorway accident leaves nine injured after wrong-way driving

A multi-vehicle accident occurred on the AP-7 motorway near El Papiol after a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction collided with two other cars. The incident, which took place around 4:05 PM, resulted in nine injuries, including one person in critical condition.

Authorities state the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash was attempting to evade police following a suspected robbery in the Terres de l'Ebre region. The driver reportedly switched to the opposite lane to avoid being caught in traffic where police patrols were visible. Mossos d'Esquadra clarified that this was not a standard high-speed pursuit, but rather a maneuver to avoid being trapped by congestion.

Two of the three occupants of the vehicle have been detained: one for alleged homicide driving and another for robbery and disobedience. A third occupant managed to flee the scene and remains at large. Emergency services, including ten SEM ambulances and seven firefighter units, responded to the scene. The critical victim was transported to Hospital Parc Taulí in Sabadell, while others were treated at hospitals in Terrassa.
