Leimen police investigate suspected arson of fire training vehicle

Police in Leimen are investigating a potential arson incident involving a decommissioned vehicle intended for use as a fire department training tool. The vehicle, located on Bürgermeister-Weidemaier-Straße, was completely destroyed by fire on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The Leimen Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene around 2:40 PM, successfully preventing the flames from spreading to an adjacent uninhabited building, though smoke caused damage to the building's facade. The total property damage is estimated at several thousand euros.

Due to evidence suggesting the fire may have been intentionally set, the Heidelberg Criminal Police Directorate has taken over the investigation. Authorities are requesting that anyone with suspicious observations or information regarding the cause of the fire contact the police hotline.
