Guardia Civil thwarts four virtual kidnappings in Michoacán

The Guardia Civil and the Anti-Extortion Unit of the Michoacán Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) successfully thwarted four virtual kidnapping attempts within a 24-hour period. The incidents occurred across the municipalities of Morelia, Uruapan, Paracho, and Quiroga.

In Morelia, authorities located a 21-year-old man unharmed after a report of his disappearance, preventing a demanded payment of 2 million pesos. In Uruapan, a 15-year-old adolescent was found safe, averting a 300,000-peso extortion attempt. Additionally, a woman and a 14-year-old in Paracho and Quiroga were rescued following similar deceptive claims, where criminals had demanded 250,000 pesos for their release. In total, authorities prevented the payment of 2.55 million pesos through timely intervention and intelligence work.
