APC denies withdrawing 2027 presidential campaign council list

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially denied reports that it withdrew the membership list of its 2027 presidential campaign council for review. National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka dismissed claims of a presidential order to purge the list as rumours, stating that any formal updates would be communicated officially by the party.

The council, which features President Bola Tinubu as chairman, has faced significant controversy regarding its composition. Critics, including opposition figures like Rabiu Kwankwaso and Dino Melaye, have raised concerns over the inclusion of serving government officials. Specifically, the appointments of Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, as deputy director of fundraising, and Taminu Yakubu, Director-General of the Budget Office, as treasurer, have drawn scrutiny.

Melaye has threatened legal action, arguing that Adedeji’s dual role as a public revenue official and a political fundraiser creates a conflict of interest and violates public service regulations. Other political stakeholders have also questioned the inclusivity of the council, particularly regarding regional representation and the presence of individuals facing corruption allegations.
