APC prepares 2027 campaign launch as political tensions rise

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing for the 2027 presidential election, with plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall. Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the council’s Director-General, stated that President Bola Tinubu currently maintains political control over more than 20 states and announced that the official campaign launch will take place in Kaduna on October 24.

The APC has intensified its political opposition toward Peter Obi, the candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The ruling party criticized Obi for claiming victory in the 2023 election without providing evidence and challenged him to withdraw from the 2027 race if financial liabilities from his tenure as Anambra State Governor are confirmed. In response, the NDC has resolved internal disputes, granting Obi and running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso the authority to select key campaign officials, with the council expected to be unveiled by November 20.

During a recent rally in Nasarawa State, APC leaders and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, endorsed President Tinubu’s re-election bid. Senator George Akume noted that the 1999 power rotation agreement supports Tinubu’s candidacy for 2027, suggesting the North will next produce a president in 2031. The First Lady highlighted economic stabilization, noting a declining foreign exchange rate and returning international investors as signs of progress.
