APC attracts thousands of defectors in Nigeria ahead of governorship elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has received a wave of defections across Nigeria as elections approach. In Kaduna State's Lere Local Government Area, about 12,000 members from various parties were welcomed by officials who credited Governor Uba Sani's development agenda for the shift. Defectors were promised equal treatment and integration, while urging the state to complete abandoned road projects and a secondary school.

In Osun State, 155 members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) left their party citing marginalisation and internal divisions. They were received by APC senatorial candidate Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, who said the move strengthens the party's grassroots support and electoral prospects for the August 15 governorship race. Defectors highlighted frustrations with parallel leadership structures within the ADC and expressed confidence that the APC candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, will win.

Both events illustrate a broader trend of politicians joining the ruling APC ahead of key state elections, with party leaders portraying the defections as evidence of growing public confidence in the party's platform and leadership.
