APC leaders reject Nyesom Wike’s Rainbow Coalition
Several state chapters and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected the ‘Rainbow Coalition’ proposed by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is promoting the cross-party platform to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
APC officials, including Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and the Deputy National Chairman, have criticized the arrangement. Critics argue that a politician cannot genuinely support the APC at the presidential level while simultaneously backing opposition candidates for governorship and legislative seats. Some party leaders have demanded that Wike formally defect to the APC if he is truly committed to Tinubu’s political success.
The dispute highlights growing internal tensions within the ruling party regarding the control of political structures and the strategic organization of support for the 2027 general elections.
