A political rift has emerged between Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and several All Progressives Congress (APC) governors regarding the 2027 general elections. The dispute centers on Wike’s “Rainbow Coalition,” a cross-party platform intended to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The Progressive Governors Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, has formally rejected any political alliance that could weaken the APC or undermine its candidates at any level. Wike has responded by labeling the governors “politically lazy,” clarifying that his support for Tinubu does not require him to join the APC or prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from fielding its own candidates for governorship and legislative seats.

While some APC members, such as lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin, have defended Wike as a political asset who has benefited the ruling party, others have called for President Tinubu to intervene to prevent internal discord from harming the party's prospects in 2027.
