Nyesom Wike clarifies 2027 support amid APC governors' opposition

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has clarified his political stance following opposition from the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum. Wike stated that his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election is unwavering but does not require the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to refrain from fielding candidates in governorship, National Assembly, or State House of Assembly elections.

In response, the Progressive Governors Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, announced a resolution in Abuja to reject any political alliance or arrangement that could weaken the APC or undermine President Tinubu’s re-election. The forum emphasized that its members will only support official APC candidates at all levels.

Wike defended his “Rainbow Coalition” as a multi-party platform designed to mobilize support for the President across different political lines, rather than an APC-specific arrangement. He dismissed the governors' concerns, noting that politics is local and that voters in previous elections have demonstrated the ability to support different parties for presidential and legislative roles simultaneously.
