APC Sweeps Edo State Local Government Elections After Opposition Boycott

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won every contested position in Edo State’s local government elections, securing all 18 chairmanships and 192 councillorship seats. The results were announced by Edo State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, who said the vote was conducted under the 2022 Local Government Electoral Law as amended in 2026 and was largely peaceful despite minor operational challenges.

Major opposition parties – the Peoples Democratic Party, National Democratic Congress and African Democratic Congress – boycotted the election, leaving the APC with little competition. Twelve parties overall took part. APC chieftain Hon. Crosby Eribo, voting in Egor LGA, praised the peaceful atmosphere and said the outcome would deepen grassroots governance.

The commission urged aggrieved candidates and parties to seek legal redress, and certificates of return are to be issued to the elected officials.
