APDCA warns of major delays in Portuguese vehicle registration

The Portuguese Automobile Trade Association (APDCA) has warned of significant delays in the legalization and registration of imported vehicles. According to reports from association members, processes at the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) can take between three to four months to complete the Vehicle Certificate Request (PCV) and subsequent payment.

Even after the IMT phase is finished, delays often persist during the actual vehicle registration process. The association noted that while the issue is widespread, the most concerning reports have come from the vehicle registry office in Porto, where online requests have been pending for several months. These delays accumulate, postponing the issuance of the Unique Vehicle Document (DUA) and registration certificate.

The APDCA highlighted that these bureaucratic hurdles have serious economic consequences, including immobilized capital for companies, difficulties in vehicle management and sales, and the need to manage frustrated customer expectations. Additionally, the association raised concerns regarding the timing of the Unique Car Tax (IUC) during these periods of inactivity.
