APECO and Huge Energy sign MOU for 1GW renewable energy project

The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO) and Huge Energy Co., Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop a 1-gigawatt (GW) renewable energy project in the Casiguran-based ecozone.

The initiative is structured in three phases to support industrialization and energy security in the Aurora province. The first phase aims for an initial capacity of approximately 100 megawatts (MW) through a solar photovoltaic facility, a battery energy storage system (BESS), and a substation. The second phase targets an additional 350 MW using a combination of solar and waste-to-energy technologies, while the third phase intends to add 550 MW to reach the total 1 GW goal.

APECO President and CEO Gil G. Taway IV stated that the project aims to provide reliable and sustainable power to attract new industries and investments. The partnership will encompass various stages, including feasibility studies, engineering, permitting, project financing, and eventual operations and maintenance.
