Apeldoorn to host 2028 European Track Cycling Championships

The Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC) has announced that Apeldoorn, Netherlands, will host the 2028 Elite European Track Cycling Championships. The event is scheduled for February 2028 and will take place at the Omnisport Apeldoorn velodrome.

The decision to move the championships to Apeldoorn from Zolder, Belgium, was made to integrate the event into the Dutch Cycling Festival 2028. This festival will celebrate the centenary of the Royal Dutch Cycling Union (KNWU), which was founded in 1928. The 2028 program aims to make the Netherlands a central hub for international cycling during the Olympic year, featuring various European championships including road cycling and BMX, as well as the Cyclocross World Championships.

UEC President Enrico Della Casa noted that both the Netherlands and Belgium are reference nations for cycling due to their culture and infrastructure. While Apeldoorn hosts the 2028 edition, Zolder has been designated as the primary option to organize the 2030 championships.
