Apennine mountain regions upgrade ski lifts for year-round tourism
Several Apennine mountain locations in Italy are undergoing infrastructure upgrades to revitalize tourism and adapt to changing climates. In Laceno, testing of new lift systems has been successfully completed, paving the way for a reopening in the upcoming winter season. To combat unpredictable snowfall, discussions have emerged regarding the potential need for artificial snowmaking investments. The new chairlifts are designed for year-round use, supporting summer activities like hiking and mountain tourism to reduce dependence on winter weather.
In the Emilia-Romagna region, the regional government has increased funding for the redevelopment of Apennine ski lifts from 900,000 to 2.5 million euros for the 2026-2027 biennium. This includes support for the Eremo di Montecopiolo in the province of Rimini, where facilities have been inactive since 2022. Following the transfer of ownership to the municipality, the redevelopment project aims to promote a multi-seasonal model including skiing, cycling, and various outdoor sports.
