APGA seeks court order to halt Imo State local elections

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has filed a lawsuit in the Imo State High Court seeking to halt local government elections scheduled for September 26, 2026. The party is challenging the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), alleging that the election notice is defective and fails to meet mandatory statutory notice periods.

APGA further raised concerns regarding the integrity of the voter register, claiming that inadequate verification and distribution procedures could lead to widespread voter disenfranchisement. The legal challenge cites a 2025 Supreme Court judgment to argue that strict compliance with statutory guidelines is required for valid local government polls.
