Apiacás hosts first itinerant environmental conciliation drive

The municipality of Apiacás hosted the first itinerant environmental conciliation drive, an initiative led by the State Secretariat of Environment (Sema) in partnership with the State Attorney General's Office, the Judiciary, the State Public Prosecutor's Office, the Public Defender's Office, and the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-MT).

The program addressed 145 processes involving environmental fines, seizures, embargos, and other restrictive measures in the municipalities of Apiacás and Guarantã do Norte. Of these, 45 are administrative processes, while the remainder involve civil inquiries and public civil actions.

Mauren Lazzaretti, Secretary of the State Secretariat of Environment, noted that over 50% of Apiacás's territory is located within indigenous lands and conservation units. The initiative aims to provide small producers who have faced environmental infractions with opportunities for regularization and legal alternatives for their rural properties, potentially allowing them to access credit and operate within legal parameters.

Prosecutor Adalberto Biazotto emphasized that the conciliation drive maintains full compliance with the law, environmental protection, and the complete recovery of damages, while considering the specific local realities of the community.
