Apichatpong Weerasethakul films acquired by The Match Factory
The Match Factory has acquired the international sales rights to four newly 4K-restored feature films by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul. The announcement comes ahead of the Venice Film Festival, where the company plans to launch sales for the titles.
The restored quartet includes ‘Blissfully Yours’ (2002), ‘Tropical Malady’ (2004), ‘Syndromes and a Century’ (2006), and the Palme d’Or winner ‘Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives’ (2010). The Match Factory holds rights for all territories excluding North America, the UK, Ireland, Japan, Switzerland, and Thailand.
Weerasethakul personally supervised the restorations, which feature remastered audio and new key art. The project received support from various institutions, including the Thai Film Archive, MoMA, and Cinémathèque Suisse. These new acquisitions expand the company’s existing catalog of Weerasethakul’s work, which already includes ‘Mekong Hotel’, ‘Cemetery of Splendour’, and ‘Memoria’.
