APIGA Celebrates 10 Years of Youth Internet Governance Training in Asia Pacific

The Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) marked its 10th anniversary, recognizing a decade of mentoring youth leaders across the Asia Pacific region. Since its launch in 2016, more than 359 participants from 32 economies have completed the five‑day workshop, building a network of future policymakers, technical experts, academics, civil‑society and Internet‑governance leaders.

The milestone was commemorated at the 10th APIGA ceremony in Busan, South Korea, on 24 July 2026. Sally Costerton, ICANN’s Senior Vice President for Global Stakeholder Engagement, said: “The Internet’s future depends on the next generation of leaders who will help ensure it remains secure, stable, and accessible for everyone.” The program is co‑hosted by ICANN and the Korea Internet & Security Agency, together with regional bodies such as the Asia Pacific Network Information Center, DotAsia and the Internet Society. In 2024, APIGA expanded with local editions in ten economies, offering shorter, locally tailored training.

As the academy enters its second decade, it continues to focus on equipping young professionals to contribute meaningfully to Internet‑governance discussions at local, regional and global levels.
