Čapljina joins BioWaste2Energy project to develop advanced biofuels

The City of Čapljina is participating in the BioWaste2Energy project, an initiative focused on the energy transition through the utilization of advanced biofuels. The project aims to investigate the production and application of biofuels derived from organic waste produced in agriculture, food processing, and the hospitality sector.

Operating under the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro 2021–2027 program, the project involves five partners across three countries. The total project value is 964,353.36 euros, with Čapljina’s budget allocated at 162,540 euros. The 24-month initiative seeks to convert bio-waste into energy resources to reduce waste, protect the environment, and support a local circular economy.

Key activities in Čapljina include the pilot application of liquid biofuel for heating at the Vladimir Pavlović Elementary School. This involves the procurement and installation of a specialized boiler, followed by technical and environmental monitoring. The project also features cross-border cooperation with the city of Metković, which will focus on demonstration biofuel production.
