APOCP 2026 workshop discusses cancer prevention and social value

At the 13th Asian Pacific Organization for Cancer Prevention (APOCP 2026) conference held in Kuching, Malaysia, stakeholders from Japan and Malaysia convened to discuss strategies for cancer prevention in workplaces and communities.

A key highlight was the report from the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) regarding a workplace screening initiative where approximately 8,000 individuals underwent screenings at a large manufacturing site over a 30-day period, including night shifts to accommodate workers.

Astellas Pharma presented an evaluation model for the “BEAUTY & Health” program, estimating that for every 1 USD invested in colorectal cancer prevention, approximately 4.6 USD of social value is generated. The company announced a contribution of 150 million yen to support the program, aiming to reach over one million people in Malaysia.

Discussions also addressed supporting the social reintegration of cancer survivors, featuring technologies such as CYBERDYNE’s HAL wearable cyborg for rehabilitation and employment support.
