Apolinario Hernández Pú sentenced to 124 years for crimes against minors in Guatemala

A court in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, has sentenced Apolinario Hernández Pú to 124 years in prison for crimes committed against minors in Joyabaj, Quiché. The defendant was found guilty of producing and possessing child pornography, as well as obstructing criminal proceedings.

Investigations by the Public Ministry (MP) revealed that Hernández Pú used electronic devices to record instances of sexual abuse. While documentation confirmed 11 specific events occurring between November 2023 and November 2024, authorities noted that the volume of seized material suggests the crimes may have extended back as far as 2015. The court also imposed a fine of 5.5 million GTQ and ordered his registration in the National Registry of Sexual Offenders (RENAS).

The Public Ministry is continuing its investigation to determine if there are additional victims, as the evidence recovered from seized devices indicates a long-standing pattern of criminal activity.
