Apollo Children’s Hospitals Opens India’s First Paediatric Robotic Urology Centre of Excellence

Apollo Children’s Hospitals in Chennai announced the launch of a dedicated Centre of Excellence in Paediatric Robotic Urology, marking the completion of more than 400 robotic procedures since the programme began in 2012. Led by senior consultant Dr. V. Sripathi, the centre treats complex kidney reconstructions and other urological conditions with robotic assistance, offering smaller incisions, reduced pain and faster recovery. About half of the patients were under five years old, and the youngest child operated on was just 50 days old and weighed 3.5 kg.

The development reflects a broader surge in India’s robotic surgery sector. The country is the fourth‑largest and fastest‑growing market for surgical robotics in Asia‑Pacific, with the AI‑based robotic surgery market valued at roughly USD 176 million in 2023 and projected to reach USD 901 million by 2030. Advances such technologies are being adopted across major hospital chains and tier‑1 and tier‑2 cities, aiming to improve patient outcomes while requiring continued investment in surgeon training and accessibility.
