Apollo Global Management reports data breach via social engineering

Apollo Global Management has disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to certain cloud platforms between July 6 and July 10. The firm identified the event as a ‘social engineering incident,’ a tactic where hackers use methods such as phone calls to compromise victims.

The breach potentially exposed sensitive personal information, including names, dates of birth, contact information, home addresses, and Social Security numbers. While the investigation is ongoing, Apollo stated it has not yet found evidence that the stolen data has been used for identity theft or fraud.

In response, Apollo has notified law enforcement, engaged cybersecurity and forensic experts, and enhanced its security protocols. The firm is offering complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to affected individuals. The incident follows a broader trend of cybercriminals targeting financial institutions and major corporations through digital traps and low-tech social engineering.
