Apolo 27 GT wins award at Formula Student Spain

The Apolo 27 GT team from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) achieved a historic milestone by representing the Dominican Republic for the first time at Formula Student Spain. Held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the competition featured approximately 1,700 students and 70 university teams from 21 countries across Europe and Asia. Apolo 27 GT was the sole representative from the American continent in the official participant list.

The team was awarded the ‘Best Team Effort’ prize and received special recognition from judges for their performance in engineering design and manufacturing. The project involved 24 students from 11 different academic disciplines, including mechanical engineering, mechatronics, software, data science, economics, and medicine, creating a multidisciplinary approach to vehicle development.

Beyond speed, the competition evaluates technical safety, engineering design, cost management, project management, and business strategy. The team was supported by tutors Irvin Cedeño and Ezequiel Díaz, with mentorship provided by Gustavo Ripoll and Alejandro Calvanese.
