Apostle Arome Osayi sparks debate over Tanzanian beach miracle claims

Apostle Arome Osayi has sparked significant debate in Nigeria following the resurfacing of a video in which he recounts a supernatural encounter on a beach in Tanzania. Osayi claimed that during this encounter, Jesus appeared to him, leading him to request the power to raise the dead and reverse autism. According to the cleric, he was instructed to send 5 million naira to a pastor in exchange for these powers. He further alleged that an angel subsequently touched him during a Sunday night ministration, after which five people began walking.

The testimony has drawn sharp criticism from social media activist VeryDarkMan, who questioned the logic of the financial demands and highlighted a perceived double standard regarding religious leaders moving abroad while preaching about Nigeria’s spiritual destiny. Conversely, other senior ministers, including Apostles Michael Orokpo and Emmanuel Iren, have defended Osayi, urging the public to refrain from insulting spiritual authorities.

The controversy has reignited a broader national conversation regarding the role of religion, the commercialization of faith, and the tension between spiritual devotion and economic accountability in Nigeria.
