Apostolos Siskos wins silver in 200m backstroke at European Championships
Greek swimmer Apostolos Siskos won the silver medal in the men’s 200m backstroke at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. Siskos set a new Greek national record with a time of 1:53.81, improving upon the 1:54.06 he recorded during the semifinals. He finished behind Hungary’s Hubert Kós, who took gold with a time of 1:53.08. The podium was completed by Italy’s Thomas Ceccon, who earned bronze in 1:53.96.
This marks Siskos’s second consecutive silver medal in this event at the European Championships, following his performance in Belgrade. In the same competition, Greek swimmer Dimitris Markos also achieved a notable result, setting a new national record in the men’s 800m freestyle with a time of 7:43.52, finishing fifth in the final.
Siskos expressed his dedication to the achievement despite a recent shoulder injury, stating that his focus remains on future goals, including the 2028 Olympics.
