App State Athletics reports strong fall starts and record fundraising

Appalachian State Athletics reports a strong start to the fall season across multiple programs. The football team, led by head coach Dowell Loggains, holds a 3-0 record, marking its best start since 2019. The soccer program, under Aimee Haywood, maintains a nine-match unbeaten streak. Additionally, the men’s cross country team has secured victories against several nationally ranked opponents.

In field hockey, the Mountaineers recently completed a road trip to Ohio, resulting in two 2-1 losses against Ohio University and No. 16 Miami University. Despite strong defensive performances from goalkeeper Dakota Anderson, the team was unable to secure wins in either contest.

Financially, the athletics department achieved record fundraising for the 2026 fiscal year, totaling over $16 million. Infrastructure developments are also progressing, with the Sofield Family Indoor Practice Facility's turf field now open, while the full facility is expected to open in early 2027.
