Appeals court reduces sentences in Ben Van Don land violation case
The Supreme People's Court's Appeals Court in Ho Chi Minh City has issued an appellate verdict regarding violations at the 39-39B Ben Van Don land plot, resulting in reduced sentences for 11 defendants.
Nguyễn Thị Như Loan, General Director of Quoc Cuong Gia Lai Joint Stock Company, had her sentence reduced to 11 months and 18 days of non-custodial reform. After accounting for 116 days of prior detention, the court determined she has completed her sentence. The court noted that all consequences of the case had been rectified.
Lê Quang Thung, former Acting Chairman of the Vietnam Rubber Group, was identified as the mastermind in the land transfer. Following an additional 5 billion VND payment to rectify consequences, his sentence for each charge was reduced by one year, leaving him with a total of 12 years in prison. Other defendants, including Lê Y Linh and Đặng Phước Dừa, also received sentence reductions for violations related to state asset management and bribery.
