Appennino Parmense offers hiking and scenic routes

The Appennino Parmense region offers diverse hiking and driving routes through forests, glacial lakes, and mountain passes. In the Corniglio area, hikers can access the Parco Nazionale via the Lagdei Refuge. Notable paths include the ‘Direttissima’ and ‘Panoramico’ trails, which lead to Lago Santo Parmense, the largest glacial lake in the Emilian Apennines. Facilities such as the Mariotti Refuge and a seasonal chairlift are available to support visitors.

Another significant route is the Passo di Cento Croci, located at approximately 1,055 meters on the border between Liguria and Emilia-Romagna. This pass connects the provinces of La Spezia and Parma, serving as a transit point for hikers on the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri and the Sentiero Italia. The SS 523 road allows travelers to connect the coast to the Val di Taro, passing through scenic areas like Varese Ligure and the ruins of Monte Tanano Castle.
