Appenzell Ausserrhoden auctions viral meme license plate

The Swiss canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden is auctioning a unique vehicle license plate, ‘AR 67’, which has gained attention due to its connection to a viral internet meme. The auction features a starting bid of 10,000 Swiss francs, approximately 10,600 euros.

The ‘6–7’ number has become a widespread pop-culture phenomenon on social media since early 2025. The trend is attributed to various sources, including a rap song and a viral video of a teenager shouting the numbers during a basketball game. In Switzerland, cantons frequently auction short or distinctive license plates to generate revenue.
