Appenzeller Huus named GaultMillau Hotel of the Year 2027

GaultMillau has named the Appenzeller Huus in Gonten, Switzerland, as the ‘Hotel des Jahres 2027’. The resort, managed by former finance entrepreneur Jan Schoch, comprises three distinct buildings: Huus Löwen, Huus Bären, and Huus Quell.

The establishment was recognized for its extensive wellness facilities, including a 2,200-square-meter spa, seven wine cellars, and its unique construction using Appenzeller moon wood. The resort employs 133 people and features a young leadership team.

A significant factor in the award was the culinary revitalization led by Executive Chef Michael Gollenz. After joining the team from Croatia, Gollenz overhauled the menus to focus on classic French techniques combined with regional Swiss products. Within six months of his arrival, the kitchen achieved a rating of 16 points from GaultMillau.
