Apple acquires Swiss AI audio startup Samplab
Apple has acquired assets and key personnel from Samplab, a Swiss startup specializing in AI-powered music production tools. The deal, which was finalized in June and disclosed via European Commission filings, appears to be an acqui-hire rather than a full corporate takeover.
Samplab, founded in Zurich in 2020, developed technology that allows musicians to edit recorded audio with the flexibility of MIDI. Key features include the ability to modify individual notes within polyphonic recordings, chord detection and editing, and granular stem separation.
Industry analysts expect Apple to integrate these capabilities into its professional audio software, specifically Logic Pro and GarageBand, to enhance existing AI features like stem splitting. Following the transition, Samplab has ceased independent operations, with its website redirecting to Apple's domain.
