Apple adds AI-powered photo editing tools in iOS 27

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 will embed three new artificial‑intelligence‑driven editing utilities in the native Photos app. Reframe lets users virtually shift the camera angle of a taken picture, generating new content to fill the newly created space. Extend expands a photo beyond its original borders by synthesising surrounding content, enabling portrait‑to‑landscape conversions without cropping the subject. Clean Up receives an overhaul, offering more precise object removal with realistic background reconstruction.

All three tools run on Apple Intelligence and are processed through the company’s Private Cloud Compute. They will be available worldwide with the September launch of iPhone 18, but rollout in Europe is postponed because of Digital Markets Act‑related regulatory constraints.

iOS 27 also replaces the former Visual Intelligence feature with a new Siri AI camera mode, simplifying the photo‑control button. A short swipe now switches from the Siri mode back to the standard camera, eliminating the prior long‑press confusion. The updates are currently in beta for developers.
