Apple adds AI‑powered Clean Up, Extend and Reframe tools to iOS 27 Photos

Apple announced at WWDC 2026 that its Photos app on iPhone, Mac and Vision Pro will receive a suite of AI‑driven editing features with the upcoming iOS 27 release. The upgraded Clean Up tool uses newer AI models to identify and remove objects more accurately, while two new tools—Extend, which expands image borders with generated content, and Reframe, which lets users change perspective after shooting—are processed via a mix of on‑device and cloud AI, leveraging Apple’s partnership with Google’s Gemini model.

A user who tested the iOS 27 Developer Beta on an iPhone 16 Pro Max reported that the Clean Up feature works best in Automatic and High‑Quality modes, taking about a minute per edit, slower than the previous iOS 26 version but delivering noticeably better results. The enhancements are slated for public rollout with iOS 27 and related OS updates later in the year.
