Apple adds AI‑powered Extend, Reframe and upgraded Clean Up to iOS 27 Photos app

Apple announced that iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 will include major AI enhancements to the Photos app. The existing Clean Up tool has been upgraded with more advanced on‑device and cloud‑based models, allowing it to remove objects even in highly complex scenes.

Two new tools debut: Extend, which generates additional content around the edges of an image to expand its composition, and Reframe, which lets users alter a photo’s angle and zoom by dragging the picture, using spatial models derived from Apple Vision Pro. All three features rely on a hybrid processing approach that splits work between the device and Apple’s servers.

The updates will be available on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro devices later in 2026 as part of the rollout of iOS 27 and subsequent software updates.
