Apple has officially moved three Intel-based MacBook models to its obsolete products list, effectively ending official hardware repair support for these devices. The affected models include the 2018 13-inch Retina MacBook Air, the 2018 13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports, and the 2017 13-inch MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Under Apple’s service policy, products are classified as “vintage” five years after their last commercial distribution and “obsolete” after seven years. Once a device is deemed obsolete, Apple ceases manufacturing replacement parts, and authorized service providers can no longer order components for them. This transition marks a continued shift in Apple’s ecosystem away from Intel processors toward its proprietary Apple Silicon.

There is one notable exception for Mac laptop users: Apple may continue to offer battery replacement services for up to ten years after a model’s last distribution, provided that the necessary parts remain available in stock.
