Apple negotiates 20% cheaper OLED panels for iPhone 18 Pro Max

Apple is reportedly seeking to lower the cost of the OLED display for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max by roughly 20 %. Sources cite negotiations with Samsung Display and LG Display that would bring the panel price down to about $66.5 per unit, compared with the roughly $80 price paid for the iPhone 17 Pro Max display. The cheaper panels are expected to use Apple’s new M16 organic OLED material, which is said to preserve or improve luminous efficiency, lifespan and colour accuracy.

The cost reduction is intended to offset rising memory and storage component expenses and to keep any overall price increase for the iPhone 18 Pro Max modest. Analysts note that the device could still be around $200 more expensive than its predecessor. Samsung Display is projected to supply roughly 26 million panels for the model, with LG Display providing about 21 million. Apple’s approach mirrors previous efforts to negotiate lower display prices for earlier iPhone generations.
