Apple AirTag and Find My hacks boost device tracking

Apple’s AirTag and Find My features can be extended with a range of practical tricks. Users can set “left behind” alerts for safe locations, simplify battery replacement with adhesive tools, share a tag’s location with airlines, and allow others to track shared tags without extra alerts. AirTags can also act as NFC shortcuts via the Shortcuts app, display owner contact info in Lost Mode, be reset to factory settings, conserve battery by removing it when not in use, and be located directly from an Apple Watch using Precision Finding. Siri can be queried to locate items, and voice commands trigger the AirTag’s sound.

Beyond AirTags, the Find My app lets iPhone users locate other Apple devices such as headphones by emitting a sound, helping retrieve items hidden in small spaces. Personal experiences include tracking lost headphones in a house and locating a father’s misplaced headphones at an airport using the map feature, demonstrating the utility of the sound‑emitting button for quick location confirmation.
