Apple and Corning expand Kentucky glass manufacturing partnership
Apple and Corning Inc. have announced a major expansion of their partnership to manufacture precision glass in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. As part of a US$2.5 billion commitment, Corning will produce all cover glass for the iPhone and Apple Watch at this facility. This move marks the first time that 100% of the cover glass for these Apple products sold worldwide will be manufactured in the United States.
To support this expansion, the companies are establishing the Apple-Corning Innovation Center. This center will focus on the development and engineering of new materials for future products. The expansion is expected to significantly impact the local workforce, with Corning anticipating an increase in its manufacturing and engineering staff by 50%. The project is also expected to create at least 200 hourly production jobs, additional salaried roles in engineering, and approximately 100 construction jobs.
