Apple and Epic Games legal battle expands to U.S. courts and Brazil

The legal battle between Epic Games and Apple continues to escalate, involving new developments in U.S. courts and international regulatory implications. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers has rejected Apple’s request to pause proceedings regarding App Store fees, despite Apple’s pending Supreme Court review of a contempt ruling. Consequently, Apple has 24 hours to submit its proposed fee structure and supporting evidence to the court.

The dispute has also taken on a geopolitical dimension. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has accused Apple of attempting to undermine relations between the United States and Brazil. This follows a decision by Brazil’s antitrust regulator, CADE, to allow the download of applications outside of the Apple App Store by the end of 2025. Sweeney alleged that Apple is violating Brazilian law and that its allies in the U.S. government, specifically the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), are threatening international partners.
